Problem: Windows users of the FermiDash system, fermidash.fnal.gov, are not allowed to view the dashboards after connecting.  They received a “permission denied” message.  This situation happens almost exclusively with the Internet Explorer, IE, browser but we have seen some people have issues with the Chrome browser.  In most cases, the user is no longer prompted with a login box which would allow them to enter their -> “Services\username” and password.

Cause:  We believe this is caused by the new Fermilab “Single Sign On”, SSO, feature that was implemented on the Fermilab network in early November 2018.  The FermiDash system is in the “Services” domain and the new SSO feature on the Femilab network automatically tries to log the user in to the FermiDash system using the “Fermi” domain and it associated password.  This will not work on the FemiDash system and therefore the dashboards are not shown.

Workaround: The following steps can be taken to remedy the situation:

  1. Windows users can enter the following command in the Windows command box and/or the Command Window: cmdkey /add:fv-fdsql-p.fnal.gov /user:services\username  (space between cmdkey and / and .gov and /)   Recommended solution
    1.
  2. Another workaround, if using a laptop, disconnect from the Fermilab network.  If onsite and using wireless, disconnect from “fgz” and use the “guest” network.  If home, do not use VPN to connect to the Fermilab network. This is temporary and will only work while not connected to the Fermilab network. The issue should be resolved using Solution 1
  3. If either of these two workarounds do not work;
    1.  IE, which is supported à Desktop Support should be contacted.
    2. Chrome, which is not supported, à users should be told to use Fermilab supported browsers- IE and/or Firefox. If those supported browsers also do not work à Desktop Support should be contacted.
