Using Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat
Copilot functionality is currently available to Fermilab employees through Copilot Chat. It can be accessed on the web, Windows 11, and macOS, with consistent functionality across platforms.
Accessing Copilot Chat
- Web Access: Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/chat.
- Login: Sign in with your Fermilab Services credentials (username@services.fnal.gov) if prompted.
- Applications: The Copilot app is available in both the Windows Store and the Apple App Store. At this time, app functionality mirrors the web interface. Integration with Microsoft Office desktop applications is not yet available due to licensing constraints.

Web Application
The web version of Copilot Chat is the most straightforward way to get started.
- Works in any modern browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox).
- Provides the full conversational chat experience.
- When signed in with your Fermilab Services account, it offers integration with Microsoft 365 services.
- Ideal for cross-device use without requiring installation.
Windows 11 Application
On Windows 11 PCs, the Copilot app is included by default.
- Access:
- Find it pinned to the taskbar or in the Start menu.
- You can also open it with the Win + C shortcut.
- Sign-In: Choose Work or school account and enter your Fermilab Services credentials.
- Features:
- Same core functionality as the web app.
- Future updates may expand system-level integration and Microsoft 365 connectivity.
macOS Application
Copilot is available as a standalone app for Mac.
- Download: Available for free in the Apple App Store.
- Requirements: macOS 14.0 or later and a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or newer.
- Sign-In: Choose Work or school account and log in with Fermilab Services credentials.
- Features: Matches the web and Windows versions, offering a native desktop interface.
Summary
