Intended for: Users who wish to add a network drive to their Windows computer
Note: You need to be granted access to that network folder first before you can map and access it on your computer.
Scenario/Use case:
Adding a network drive to your Windows computer to open, share, and save documents.
Instructions:
Before you start make sure that you are on the Fermilab network. Either by physically being at the lab and connected to the "FGZ" network or by connecting to the VPN while offsite.
1. Open File Explorer by clicking the folder icon on your task bar.
2. On the left hand side, click "Username on Computer Name" with "Username" being your Fermi username and "Computer Name" being the name of the computer you are currently using.
3. Select the "Computer" tab at the top of the window.
4. In the network section, select "Map Network Drive".
5. Select the letter you want from the "Drive:" dropdown list.
6. Enter the path to your network folder. For example: \\homesrv1\transfer\a\apple
- This information can be obtained from another person who already has this network folder mapped. For example, on another user's computer it would be displayed as:
- apple (\\homesrv1\transfer\a) (A:)
7. Make sure the "Reconnect at sign-in" checkbox is checked.
8. Hit the "Finish" button.
