How to reset your PIN on a YubiKey

Intended for:

YubiKey users. YubiKeys enable multifactor authentication, which is used to access certain applications at Fermilab.

 


Scenario/Use case:

Change the PIN on their YubiKey device

 


Instructions:

The Service Desk will assign an initial PIN when you first obtain your YubiKey. To change that PIN:

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR CURRENT PIN:

Please contact the Service Desk to reset your PIN. There is a YubiKey Manager app. However, after evaluation, we do not recommend using it as it runs the risk of wiping data from your device. 

 

IF YOU DO KNOW YOUR CURRENT PIN:

 

Mac

Please contact the Service Desk to reset your PIN. There YubiKey Manager app for Macs. However, after evaluation, we do not recommend using it as it runs the risk of wiping data from your device. 

  

Windows

 

1. Press CRTL-ALT-DELETE on your keyboard

2. Select Change a password:

Change a password


3. Click on Sign-in options

 

4. Select the smart card icon:

5. Verify that you receive the message, ”Yubico Yubikey 4 OTP+U2F+CCID 0)":

6. Change your  PIN:

6.1. Enter Current PIN

6.2. Enter New PIN (6 to 8 alphabetic or numeric characters)

6.3. Confirm New PIN

6.4. Press ENTER

 

7.- Click on OK
