Intended for: Users who need to request for Fermilab primary accounts

Scenario/Use case:

This article provides instructions on how to request for Fermilab primary accounts.

There are three types of personnel who access Fermilab computers: employees, contract workers and visitors (which includes users.) Users who are not employed by Fermilab may have on-site or off-site access, and are considered visitors. Please read the section(s) below that apply to you.

Note: For instructions on how to renew your account, see this article.

Instructions:

On-site Employees

  1. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing.
  2. Obtain a Fermilab ID during the New Employee Orientation. This includes putting information into FermiWorks.
  3. Your supervisor or a colleague may then fill out the Computing Username and Primary Accounts form for you:

Contractors

  1. The hiring manager fills out information in FermiWorks including an email address for the person being hired as a contractor.
  2. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing.
  3. Your supervisor or a colleague may then fill out the request form for Computing Username and Primary Accounts:

Visitors

  1. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing
  2. Apply for a computer account via this form (Note: The title of the form is “Request for Fermilab Visitor ID and computer accounts.” It means an ID number, not a physical badge.)
  3. If you have answered yes to the question about being on-site on the form, please visit the Users Office Onsite page at http://get-connected.fnal.gov/users/accounts/ for further instructions on obtaining a visitor ID badge.
