Q: What is OneDrive for Business?
A: OneDrive for Business is a storage service offered as part of Fermilab’s Office 365 subscription that lets you store and share your work files in the cloud. You can use OneDrive for Business to store your work files in the cloud and access those files from Windows and Mac computers as well as mobile devices.

Q: How to access your OneDrive for Business files via a web browser?
A: Please follow these steps:

    1. Launch Safari.
    2. Navigate to https://fermicloud-my.sharepoint.com  (We recommend that you bookmark this URL for future reference)
    3. Type [USERNAME]@services.fnal.gov. You will then be directed to the Fermilab login page where you can enter your Services Account username and password to log in.

 

 

    1. You may be asked to trust the OneDrive web plugin; select “trust” if prompted.

Note: If you have previously visited OneDrive for Business and logged in, you may see the following screen instead of the login screen. If so, just click the username.

 

 


Q: How to access your OneDrive for Business files via the OneDrive for Business app?
A: Please follow these steps:

  1. To install and setup the OneDrive for Business app, open Self Service and go to the Microsoft Category on the right side of the Self Service window and then find the Install OneDrive for Business option.

                         

  1. Click on Install. The Installation will begin and shortly after you will be prompted will a popup window.  Select Yes or No.

                          

  1. Next, you will be prompted with a window letting you know OneDrive has successfully installed.  Click the "Open Link" option to view the KB article for help with setting up OneDrive or click "No Thanks" to close the window and complete the process.

                        

  1. Go to your /Applications folder and open the OneDrive App. Select an option below to Proceed. 

Option 1 – You Selected Yes in Step 2 and you already have a personal account signed in to OneDrive, proceed to step aOption 2 – You selected No in Step 2 and you're not signed in to OneDrive with any account, proceed to step c.

     a)    Click the OneDrive cloud icon up in your Menu bar and select Preferences.

                         

     b)    Click the Account tab and in the new Add Account group, select Add a Business Account to start the Welcome to OneDrive wizard.

                         

 

     c)    The Welcome to OneDrive Window will appear, click the Sign In button.

                

     d)    In the username field, enter your username in the form of username@services.fnal.gov, you should automatically be directed to a fermilab Single Sign In page.

                

     e)    Enter your username and password and select Sign In.

               

     f)      On the This is your OneDrive folder screen, click Choose OneDrive Folder Location.

                

     g)    Select a location where you would like to save your OneDrive files and click Choose this location.

                        

     h)    When you see the This is your OneDrive folder screen, you’ll now see a path to the folder you selected. Click Next to continue.

                

     i)      On the Sync Files from Your OneDrive screen, you can choose the folders you want to sync to your computer, and click Next. This conserves space on your computer, and reduces bandwidth    needed for the sync processes. 

     j)      When you see Your OneDrive Is Ready for You, the last thing to do is make sure you select Open at login so my files sync automatically. This will ensure that OneDrive runs at login and you always have the most up to date version of all your files.

                     

     k)    After you enable OneDrive to open at login, you’re done! Click Open your OneDrive folder to see your files sync to your folder.

You can find OneDrive up in your Menu bar. You’ll have a cloud icon for every account you’ve connected to OneDrive. So you’ll have one cloud if you’re only syncing a work or school account, one cloud if you’re syncing only a personal account, or two clouds if you’re syncing both.

Q: How to access your OneDrive for Business files using Microsoft Document Connection?
A: Please follow these steps:

  1. In Applications, click Microsoft Document Connection in the Microsoft Office 2011 folder.
  2. From the Document Connection menu, select Preferences.
  3. Select the Enable Basic Authentication check box, then close the Preferences window.
  4. From the Add Location menu, select the Connect to a SharePoint Site… option.
  5. Navigate to https://fermicloud-my.sharepoint.com
  6. Log in with your Services Account username (i.e., username@services.fnal.gov) and password. You will be directed to a Fermilab login page; type your Services Account username (i.e., username) and password.
  7. You may be asked to Trust the OneDrive web plugin, select “trust” if prompted.
  8. Click the Menu icon in the top left corner (next to where it says Office 365) and select OneDrive.
  9. In your browser’s URL bar, copy the address up to /Documents, e.g.,https://fermicloud-my.sharepoint.com/personal/username_services_fnal_gov/Documents. Depending on how you navigate to OneDrive, the URL you are directed to may have layouts/15/start.aspx# between /username_services_fnal_gov and /Documents. To sync your account, you must delete "_layouts/15/start.aspx#" from the address.
  10. Copy and paste the URL into the address bar in the Microsoft Document Connection window.
  11. When prompted, enter your Services Account username and password. Your OneDrive folder should now be connected; you can now upload, download or edit documents in your OneDrive folders.
  12. If you receive an error message about not being able to connect, make sure the address is correct as described in step 9.


Q: How to edit a OneDrive for Business document using Microsoft Document Connection?
A: In Microsoft Document Connection, double click the document you want to edit. You may be asked to verify your Office 365 credentials; if so, select your account in the pop-up window or enter your Services Account username and password.  After you log in, you may proceed to edit your documents. When you save a document by pressing Command+S or clicking File > Save, this will overwrite the original file in the cloud.

Q: How to edit a OneDrive for Business document?
A: There are two options:

Option 1: Editing a document in the browser

Option 2: Editing a document locally with a Microsoft application

  1. In a browser, select the document you want to edit in your OneDrive folder. 
  2. Once the document is opened in the browser, click the Edit Document tab and select Edit in “Word/Excel/PowerPoint” option.  The document will be opened locally in its respective Microsoft application on your Mac.
  3. When you save your changes in the document, it will overwrite the original file in the cloud.
