How to pick which certificate to use to access DocDB
Intended for:
DocDB users.
Scenario/Use case:
Pick which certificate to use to access DocDB
Instructions:
What are the personal certificate options for accessing DocDB?
You can use any of these certificates to access DocDB:
- CILogon certificate for Fermilab or your home institution.
- CERN certificate.
Which personal certificate should I pick to access DocDB?
- If you don't have a CERN certificate, we recommend that you obtain a CILogon Silver CA certificate for Fermilab or your home institution by following instructions at KB0013239.
- If you already have a CERN certificate, you can use that certificate instead.
We encourage DocDB users to pick one certificate for accessing DocDB to avoid the following problems:
- If you need to sign documents, you cannot sign documents using one certificate if you are listed as a signer via another certificate. You may also need to look at two signature reports to see what you've signed.
- If you need to use DocDB email notifications, you cannot change your email notifications for one certificate when accessing DocDB using another certificate.
- The group lists for different certificates can get out of sync (though we try to keep them the same). If this happens, you may not be able to access needed documents when using different certificates.
