Policy on Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix
1. Purpose
This policy establishes the requirement of reviewing and incorporating the language identified in the Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix.
This Policy is not a contract and is not intended to create any obligations on FRA. This Policy may be terminated or changed by FRA at any time, with or without notice.
2. Scope
The scope of this Policy includes the Fermilab Batavia, IL site and DOE leased spaces in Lead, SD, as well as FRA employees in any other locations.
3. Applicability
This Policy applies to Fermi Research Alliance, LLC and all its employees, affiliates, and users.
4. Effective Date and Date Reviewed/Updated
This Policy went into effect on September 20, 2023.
5. Policy
All Policy Owners and Policy Points of Contact (POCs) must ensure alignment to the Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix when writing or updating policies. This will ensure the Laboratory is consistent in identifying the types of people and their characteristics.
6. Definitions
Fermilab is the physical site and property that is the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
Fermi Research Alliance, LLC is the operator and manager of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory under Department of Energy Prime Contract No. DE-AC02-07CH11359 and is the principal employer of personnel working at Fermilab.
7. Responsibilities
The Policy Oversight Board (POB) is responsible to updating the Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix.
The Requirement Owners are responsible for communicating to the POB that a change needs to be made to the Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix.
Policy POCs are responsible for ensuring that the new policy or update to an existing policy is using consistent language as identified in the Taxonomy and Nomenclature Matrix.

9. Owner
The Director of the Office of Contractor Assurance is the owner of this policy.
10. Review Cycle
This Policy shall be reviewed every 3 years.
11. Communication Plan
The requirements of this Policy shall be communicated by the Director of the Office of Contractor Assurance to all Policy Owners and Policy POCs. This Policy shall be available on the Fermilab policy website. The Director of the Office of Contractor Assurance is responsible for the communication of this Policy.
