How to use Windows Terminal Server to access Fermilab e-Business Suite (eBS)

 

Intended for:

This article is intended for Fermilab e-Business Suite (eBS) users.

 


Scenario/Use case:

Access Fermilab eBS via Windows Terminal Server.

 


Instructions:

 

Mac      Windows      Linux      FNALU

 

Mac

1. Select Go > Applications > Microsoft Remote Desktop.

NOTE: If you don't see the Microsoft Remote Desktop application, if you have a Fermilab-owned computer, we recommend using the lab's Mac Self Service system to get the latest version. Otherwise, you can download it from https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id1295203466?mt=12. (Version 8.0.2 or higher required).

 

 

2. To create a new session, click the + icon and select Add PC.

 

 

3. Enter "fermi-elh.fnal.gov" for both the PC name and Friendly name fields. Click Add when finished.

 

 

4. Double click on fermi-elh.fnal.gov to establish a Remote Desktop Session.

 

 

 5. Enter your SERVICES username and password, and click Continue.

 

 

NOTE: If you receive a certificate warning, click Continue.

 

 

6. Select OK when you are prompted to accept the log-on banner.

 

 

7. Enter your SERVICES account name and password to log in to eBS.

 

 

8. For ease of access in the future, bookmark the Remote Desktop Connection application:

 

Windows

1. Windows 7 or Windows 10 users, launch your Remote Desktop Connection client by selecting Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.

NOTE: Windows 8 users, launch your Remote Desktop Connection client by selecting Start Menu. Enter the word "Remote" in search box, and hit "Enter." (For Remote Desktop Connection).

 

2. Enter "fermi-elh.fnal.gov" in the "Computer" box and click Connect.

 

 

3. If you receive the "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to continue?" message, check the box next to "Don't ask me again," and click Yes.

 

 

 

4. When you see the "Enter your credentials" dialog box, enter your Services username and password. 

NOTE: If the "Log on to" box does not display "SERVICES\username" already, select "Use another account." In the username field, enter "SERVICES\" followed by your Services username. Then enter your Services password. Click OK.

 

 

5. Select OK when you are prompted to accept the “Notice To Users” banner.

 

 

6. You should see the eBS (eMarketplace) sign-in screen. Enter your Services credentials.

 

 

7. For ease of access in the future, bookmark the Remote Desktop Connection application.

 8. Once you complete your job, log out of eMarketplace.

 

 

Linux

1. Open a terminal window and run this command: 

$ rdesktop fermi-elh.fnal.gov -u username -d fermi     

NOTE: Here, username is your Kerberos principal/account name. This command has been tested with rdesktop 1.6.0 and 1.7.2. If you experience any problems connecting to the Windows Terminal Server, please update your RDC client to the most current version in your Linux distribution.

 

 

FNALU

1. Log on to one of the FNALU nodes, export your display, and run the following two commands for username xyz:

   ssh -X -Y xyz@fnalu.fnal.gov
   xfreerdp /u:xyz@services /v:fermi-elh /sec:rdp /cert-ignore

2. Agree to the Fermilab warning.

3. In the next screen, click in the "password" field and enter your Services password. This opens a Windows session.

4. In the browser window that pops up, enter your Services account username and password once more. This opens the invoice approval interface.

 

How to quit your eBS (eMarketplace) Terminal Server session

1. Log off from the eBS application by clicking Log Off in the upper-right corner of the eBS page.
