How to upgrade your Zoom desktop client

Intended for:

Zoom users.

Scenario/Use case:

Update Zoom desktop client version. If you haven’t updated your Zoom client to version 5.17.5 or higher by March 1, 2024, you will be prompted to do so when you try to start or join a Zoom meeting. Since this may delay your meeting, we advise you to update your Zoom client as soon as possible. To check which version of Zoom you have, see this article.

Instructions on how to upgrade your Zoom desktop client are below.

Instructions:

On Windows computers

  1. OPTION A: If you use a Fermilab centrally managed computer and are familiar with the Windows Software Center (aka "Windows Self Service"), you can upgrade using that method. (Search for Software Center on your computer, in the Software Center, search for Zoom. Click on the application and click Install. You must be connected to the Fermilab network (either onsite or via VPN) if using this method. See more detailed instructions for using Windows Software Center/Self Service).
  2. OPTION B: To upgrade, open your Zoom client on your computer.
    1. Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner of the application.
    2. Click Check for updates.

If there is a newer version than the version you have installed, the application will already update. (You must have Zoom version 5.17.5 or above installed in order to use the Zoom client after March 1,2024.)
